Child Sexual Assault Investigation

A 21 Count True Bill has been returned by the Knox County Grand Jury on John Baskins who was arrested earlier this year for sexually assaulting a 6-year-old female.
The charges include:
Rape of a Child
Incest
Especially Aggravated Exploitation of a Minor, and
Sexual Exploitation of a Minor

Baskins’ arraignment has been set for August 11, 2015. Baskins has remained in jail since his arrest in March.

Just after Midnight this morning, March 23, 2015, officers responded to an apartment on Joe Lewis Road to investigate a report of a sexual assault on a 6-year-old female child. According to the preliminary investigation, the mother of the child along with an adult witness returned home and discovered the child’s uncle sexually assaulting the child. The suspect fled the apartment on foot. The child’s uncle was babysitting the victim along with two of the victim’s siblings as well as two additional small children. Soon after the suspect fled the apartment, the E-911 Center received a call from the suspect who indicated he was on the Asheville Highway bridge and was threatening suicide. Officers along with negotiators responded to the scene. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Safety Building where he was interviewed by investigators. The suspect was charged with one count of Rape of a Child and transported to the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility. The investigation is continuing.

Knoxville address
Baskins is being held on a $100,000 bond.
